Today you probably have heard about out sourcing but have not thought about you actually being the person outsourced. Stop and think for a moment about the things you love to do, and are really good at. Chances are there is a market for your services. Understanding why a company wants to use outsourcing is the key. Just like everyone in today’s recessionary economy, companies are looking for ways to cut costs without loosing customers while still making a profit. The number one choice for companies is to outsource certain parts of their business that can be performed more efficiently by someone else, possibly you.
When a company out sources a job; they do not have to pay any employee benefits. These benefits can be expensive if they include; hiring, training, health care, pension contributions, unemployment insurance premiums holiday and sick pay. When the company out sources a particular job, they contract the job out for an agreed upon price. The contract price can often be more than the person currently performing the job in-house, but less than the overall cost to the company. However it is more than just saving money for the company; it is about performing the job more efficiently. After all, at the end of the day, the customer has to be really satisfied.
With this in mind, review what you are doing in your present position or previous job or better yet; what you would really like to do that you are good at? Once you have made that decision. The next step is to market your service by marketing yourself (Marketing Through Service). The benefits of being an independent contractor are many: having a home based business, working from home, no traveling costs depending on the job you are doing, tax benefits (check with your accountant), being your own boss, setting your own hours, again depending on what service you are doing. With the service you have chosen, you could have contracts with several companies.
At this stage you will need a well defined business plan outlining what services you specialize in, how you will perform them and how much you will charge. Keep in mind any government taxes that may have to be collected in your payment and remitted at regular intervals. Your marketing plan is crucial to your success, this plan will show you how and where to get your customers (the companies). This marketing plan has to be creative as you will have competition and will need to be seen as someone offering a superior service. Leave absolutely nothing to chance. As they say you never get a second chance to make a great first impression.
